CMU Presidential Scholarship

CMU Presidential Scholarship 2023
Chiang Mai University has a scholarship called CMU Presidential Scholarship which advocates academic fee and other expenses for students in Master’s Degree and Doctoral Degree. 100 scholarships will be distributed in each degree level (200 scholarships in total).

• Tuition Fee (depending on each program)
• Life, Accident and Health Insurance (THB 3,000)
• Books and Stationery (THB 3,000 per semester)
• Living Allowance (THB 12,000 per month)
• Settlement Allowance (THB 6,000)
• Air Fare from hometown to CMU (THB 15,000)
• Air Fare from CMU back to hometown (THB 15,000)
• Thesis Publication Allowance (THB 6,000)

Criteria and Documents Required for the Scholarship Application:

Doctoral Degree Level

  1. Bachelor’s Degree Holder: GPA not less than 3.50 (based on the maximum of 4.00) or equivalent or Master’s Degree Holder: GPA not less than 3.50 (based on the maximum of 4.00) or equivalent. In case the applicant has studied in a master’s degree program with thesis only, the applicant must have published good publication(s) or gained good results in their thesis work. (The publication should be published or accepted to be published by ISI, SCOPUS, IEEE, PubMed or by any other international publishers accepted by the Graduate School)
  2. Research Plan provides a description, about 3-5 pages, explaining the research plans at Chiang Mai University. The scholarship is intended for original and publishable research (not for the compilation of textbooks or the writing of general surveys in the field that is studied. If possible, the applicant should contact in advance a professor at CMU in the field of intended to study to initiate the research plan together)
  3. Certificate of English Language Proficiency dated within the last 2 years: IELTS or IELTS Indicator score of 6.0, TOEFL score of 183 (CBT) or 79 (IBT) or CMU-eTEGs score of 70 (must be a certificate from June 5, 2020 onwards) except for applicants who are a Native English Speakers from the countries referred to below
  4. Two recommendation letters, one of which must be from the current or latest applicant’s major advisor and the other should be from the person most familiar with his/her scholarly work (recommendations will receive a stronger consideration if they are from a professor at CMU who is expected to be his/her dissertation advisor).

Master’s Degree Level

  1. Bachelor’s Degree Holder: GPA not less than 3.50 (based on the maximum of 4.00) or equivalent
  2. An international or a regular graduate program while doing Master’s Thesis (Type 1 or 2) only is applicable. (Programs with Independent Study are not applicable). International programs or programs taught in English will be given a higher priority.
  3. Research Outline for the program applied for. At least 2 pages detailing the research outline, in addition to previous research experiences and the research work presented at the meeting and/or published to date. Please explain (i) why you are interested in the particular research area; (ii) why you should be awarded the scholarship; and (iii) how you propose to carry out the study.
  4. Certificate of English Language Proficiency dated within the last 2 years: IELTS or IELTS Indicator score of 6.0, TOEFL score of 183 (CBT) or 79 (IBT) or CMU-eTEGs score of 70 (must be a certificate from June 5, 2020 onwards) except for applicants who are a Native English Speakers from the countries referred to below
  5. Two recommendation letters, one of which must be from the current or latest applicant’s major advisor and the other should be from the person most familiar with his/her scholarly work (recommendations will receive a stronger consideration if they are from a professor at CMU who is expected to be his/her master’s thesis advisor).

CMU Presidential Active Recruitment Scholarship for 2022 Academic Year

Chiang Mai University (CMU) is offering 60 Full Graduate Level Scholarships per year, an exciting opportunity to study at CMU for both Thai and international citizens who possess a high potential and who meet our requirements.

  • Doctoral Degree Scholarships: 40 (in total per year)
  • Master’s Degree Scholarships: 20 (in total per year)

Step 2 The faculty will consider your application.

Step 3 Staff of faculty will send the name of the person who was qualified and then the Graduate School officer will continue to do the process.

Ta & Ra Academic Year 2023

Chiang Mai University has allocated an amount of budget to support graduate students to work as Teaching Assistants (TA’s) and Research Assistants (RA’s) for those who are applying to enroll in either regular or international master’s degree or doctoral degree programs with doing thesis (master’s thesis or doctoral thesis). The purposes of the scholarships are to :

• Reduce workload of faculty members, the department or the faculty where affiliated.
• Enhance the ability of students in transferring knowledge
• Provide students the experience in teaching and/or doing research
• Provide financial support THB 9,000 per month

The Scholarships

100 scholarships are available for Master's and Doctoral students. The maximum amount of each scholarship is 'FHB 108,000 per year, which will be paid by monthly installments to a maximum of 9,000 Baht per month. The duration of the scholarship is 12 months.

The students must reconfirm to continue receiving the scholarships each year. The maximum period of scholarships for Master's TA/RA is 2 years. The maximum period of scholarships for Doctoral TA/RA is 3 years.

Periods of application are as follows: 15th November 2022 to 25th April 2023.

Thailand International Postgraduate Programme (TIPP) is the scholarship under the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand. Only international students are eligible to apply.
